Josh H asked:
I am 17 years old, new hunter, and I’m going to New York to hunt with a 12 Guage shotgun and deer slugs. I am going to be in a heavily wooded area with some fields every now and then, and It will be cold and snowing. What are some good techniques I should know for hunting Whitetail in Up-State New York?

No Scent and No noise… be really quiet
well i would try call ,,, grunt call, tracking in the snow stalking and still hunting,, snow will usually have the deer moving ok tu eddie
I will be out also, if you are hunting in Upstate NY you better be using a Remington 12 gauge!! If you are hunting southern zone it will be wet and mild, at least until Monday. Every year I sit in a tree and just wait if your quiet usually you will see something, one year I shot a deer after being in a tree for 15 min. other years it has been 3 hours and some years 7 hours, the key is to have patients, force yourself to wait another 15 minutes when you want to move, than another 15 min. I can’t tell you how many times I have forced myself to stay in one spot when i didn’t want to and ended up shooting a deer a short time later. Good luck.
Be still. Be quiet. Try to sit somewhere that the deer will not smell you. Have the wind blow your scent away from where you “think” they will come from. Dress in layers so you dont get cold. You dont want to end your hunt early because you are cold. Be patient. Take one good shot. The best shot you will have will be the first one. Make sure if you do get a shot to watch where the deer goes if it runs off. And most of all have fun!! Good luck
