A very important part of buying a handgun is whether parts are readily available for it and glock parts are not hard to find. The trigger safety on a glock makes it pretty unique in the handgun world. Some have copied this, but glock was first to incorporate a 2 part trigger where both parts have to function together to allow the trigger to pull back. If one of the parts gets pulled without the other, it simply will not pull back to fire. This results in a safe trigger pull because if something like a stick touches the trigger and causes it to move, it likely will not function as both parts need to go at the same time. This design also keeps the glock ready to fire when “deliberately” pulled as there is no other safety to worry with.
Another safety for the glock is the firing pin design. The pin is always in a secure position with a spring putting tension on it. In other words, it is not going to slide forward if the gun is dropped. When the trigger is pulled correctly the spring tension is released, but not until then. If the gun is accidentally dropped, the pin will not suddenly move forward and hit the round. Guns are often dropped and this is an important safety feature for handguns.
Dropped gun safety is another safety the glock employs. Dropping a gun can be one of the most likely safety hazards gun owners face. A safety mechanism inside the glock causes a shield between the firing pin and the bullet. This shield will only move down when the trigger is pulled correctly. If the gun is dropped, the shield will be in place and stop the firing pin from hitting the round.
Owning a handgun can be intimidating at first due to the power a gun inherently has. Keeping a safe handgun is a great way to protect yourself and property, and glocks are one of the safest guns a person can own. Learning all the safety features of any gun is number one in weapon ownership.
